Remote Pilot - Remote Operations Centre (ROC)

The Remote Pilot – Remote Operations Centre (ROC) is responsible for executing safe, reliable, and professional remote flight operations from Sphere’s CASA-approved ROC.

This role focuses on mission planning, live flight execution, monitoring, and data delivery across customer operations, while operating within established ROC procedures and compliance frameworks. Remote Pilots play a critical role in delivering customer outcomes, supporting demos and proof-of-concepts, and contributing operational feedback to improve Sphere’s systems and workflows.

Remote Pilots operate under the operational direction of the Senior Manager – ROC and within the training, compliance, and regulatory framework set by the Head of Flight Operations & Training.

You’re comfortable managing multiple inputs, following defined procedures, and communicating clearly during live operations. You take pride in consistency, documentation, and delivering high-quality outcomes for customers.

You don’t need to lead the team, but you do need to be dependable, professional, and committed to doing things the right way, every time.

Key Responsibilities

Remote Flight Operations

  • Execute assigned remote flight missions from the ROC in line with approved flight plans and procedures.
  • Conduct mission planning, tracking, and live monitoring during assigned shifts.
  • Operate confidently within aviation communication networks and ROC systems.
  • Maintain situational awareness and escalate issues promptly during live operations.
  • Deliver missions safely, efficiently, and in line with customer objectives.

Mission Delivery & Customer Outcomes

  • Conduct aerial surveying, mapping, inspection, and operational flights from the ROC.
  • Deliver mission data in line with customer-agreed turnaround times and formats.
  • Provide professional, reliable service to both external customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support customer demos and proof-of-concept flights as required.

Documentation & Operational Discipline

  • Complete all required flight documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain flight logs, mission records, and relevant operational notes.
  • Follow shift handover procedures to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Adhere to ROC workflows, escalation paths, and operational standards.

Product Support & Continuous Feedback

  • Support testing and proving activities for Hub and CURO platforms as scheduled.
  • Provide practical operational feedback on system performance, usability, and reliability.
  • Participate in new workflow trials or feature rollouts as directed.
  • Engage in training or refreshers required to maintain operational readiness.

Compliance & Training Alignment

  • Operate in accordance with CASA regulations, Sphere SOPs, and approved operating procedures.
  • Apply training outcomes and procedures as provided by the Head of Flight Operations & Training.
  • Raise operational issues, procedural friction, or safety concerns through appropriate channels.
  • Maintain required certifications, endorsements, and operational currency.

What We’re Looking For

  • RePL Octa and IREX certifications, with demonstrated multi-rotor flight experience (50+ hours preferred).
  • Confidence operating in structured or safety-critical environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work calmly under pressure.
  • Willingness to work shift patterns aligned to customer and operational demand.
  • Experience in ROC, aviation, or similar operational environments highly regarded.
  • IREX rating or BVLOS OCTA certification desirable, but not essential.
