We’ve unboxed it, flown it, and put together two quick videos to give you a look at what this next-gen enterprise drone brings to the table.
Our Chief Remote Pilot, Elliot Cummins, unboxed the DJI Matrice 400 and shared his initial thoughts. From the reinforced arm and leg brackets to the newly designed propeller mounts and transport brackets, everything about the aircraft screams durability and thoughtful engineering.
A few design updates jumped out to us:
It shares clear inspiration from both the Matrice 350 and the Matrice 600 here, with a cleaner fit and finish that gives you confidence, even in rugged environments.
We took the M400 out for its first flight, and straight off the bat, Elliot was impressed. The aircraft’s large motors and propellers gave it serious lift, but what really stood out was how responsive it still felt in the air.
Even with a lighter payload (we were flying the Zenmuse H30T, around 1 kg), the drone felt stable and powerful, a promising sign for heavier, multi-sensor setups down the track.
“Those big propellers and motors really provide a lot of lift, but the aircraft still feels responsive, even with a lighter payload.”
- Elliot Communs, Chief Remote Pilot at Sphere
The M400’s payload capacity (up to 6 kg) and extended flight time open the door for more complex missions without sacrificing performance. We’re looking forward to putting it through more paces, testing flight endurance, load behaviour, and how it handles real operations.
