The DJI Matrice 400 is quickly becoming the go-to platform for enterprise drone operations across mining, utilities, and critical infrastructure. But with new gear comes new questions.

Whether you're weighing up an upgrade from the M350 or M600, or just getting across the spec sheet, we’ve pulled together the top questions users are asking about the Matrice 400, with answers based on real-world insight.

Your DJI Matrice 400 questions answered

Can I use TB65 or TB60 batteries with the M400?

No, the Matrice 400 uses new TB100 batteries, powered by the BS100 charging station. While it might seem like a hassle to switch, this new ecosystem brings some serious advantages:

  • Single battery operations: The M400 doesn't require two batteries to operate and still supports hot-swapping.
  • Smarter charging and cooling: The BS100 includes auto-cooling for batteries post-flight, extending service life.
  • Multi-role charging: With USB-C ports and onboard storage, the BS65 also powers tablets, RC Plus remotes, and even serves as a mobile workstation hub.
  • Battery analytics: The system logs battery health and cycle data directly to the DJI Pilot 2 app.

When connected to a 220V power supply, the BS100 charging station can charge a battery in just 45 minutes using fast mode, or 110 minutes in silent mode.

Does Matrice 400 have hot-swappable batteries?

Yes, the Matrice 400 supports hot-swapping batteries. An internal capacitor keeps critical systems running, giving you up to 45 seconds to swap batteries before shutdown.

What’s the Matrice 400's max transmission range?

The M400 is equipped with the new DJI O4 Enterprise Enhanced transmission, offering:

  • Up to 40km range
  • 10 antenna array
  • Sub2G frequency support for high interference environments
  • Dual cellular support via the DJI Cellular Dongle 2

It’s a big step up for operators considering BVLOS missions, or those needing reliable comms in harsh RF environments.

How many payloads can the M400 carry?

The Matrice 400 supports up to 7 payloads simultaneously with a maximum payload capacity of 6kgs. M400 has the following mounting options making it one of DJI's most versatile platforms yet:

  • Single downward gimbal - maximun payload weight of 1.4kg
  • Dual downward gimbal - maximum payload weight of 950 grams
  • Third gimbal connector - maximum payload weight of 3kg with a quick release port, or 6kg using screw lock fastening
  • 4x E-Port V2 with a single 120W power port

Will my existing payloads and accessories still work?

The Matrice 400 uses the same DJI SkyPort V3 quick-release connection system for transferring data and power to payloads.

The following first-party Zenmuse payloads are compatible with the Matrice 400:

And the following acccessories are compatible

That said, some of the mounting hardware has changed, and some accessories may require new adapters or firmware updates. It’s always best to check your exact payload before swapping platforms.

Is the obstacle avoidance system better than the M350?

Yes, and here’s how:

  • Omnidirectional sensing: Thanks to integrated LiDAR and mmWave radar, the M400 can detect and avoid obstacles even in low light or complex terrain. With the ability to see objects as small as 12mm, such as powerlines.
  • Improved flight safety: The data from the vision cameras are made available in the DJI Pilot 2 app for real-time visual awareness.

The obstacle avoidance system consists of the following:

  • Omnidirectional binocular vision system
  • Downward-facing binocular vision system
  • LiDAR (including horizontal rotating LiDAR and upward LiDAR)
  • Downward 3D infrared range sensor
  • 6-directional mmWave radar

For asset inspections or missions in tight spaces, this is a significant step forward in environmental awareness.

How long can the Matrice 400 fly for?

Flight time depends on payload weight, but DJI lists:

  • 59 minutes with the Zenmuse P1, Zenmuse L2, and Zenmuse H30T
  • 53 minutes with the Zenmuse H30T + Zenmuse V1
  • 50 minutes with the Zenmuse H30T + Zenmuse S1
  • 44 minutes for a 3kg payload
  • 31 minutes for a 6kg payload

That means extended missions, shorter downtime, and more flexibility on site.
